Please is there a kind soul who could look up a William Griffiths born 1868 in Wolverhampton (and hopefully still living there 3 years later!) I think father's name James (coalminer) and mother Hannah but I'm having trouble confirming this on 1881 census so need to try earlier!
Many hopeful thanks
Jax
Hi Jax
Checked the 1871 Census searching for William Griffiths born 1868 +/- 2years in Wolverhampton. Found only the following:
William Griffiths born abt 1866 son of Thomas & Charlotte
William Griffiths born abt 1869 son of Richard & Fanny
William Griffiths born abt 1870 son of George & Ann
Regards
Bill
Oh dear - now I'm a bit stuck, but thank you for looking! Is the 1871 "complete" like the 1881 or could there be gaps? In the 1881 I found a Wm Griffiths born c1869 living with 2 brothers, 2 step-brothers and step-father and mother. Mother's name listed as Hannah Vernan (though from marriage records this could well be Vernon as I found a Vernon marrying a Hannah Griffiths at the right time) but wanted to find her with first husband and Willliam before she re-married if this is indeed the right person.
Hi Jax
I searched ancestry.com for the 1871 census and do not know of any gaps. I also searched for all Hannah Griffiths living in Wolverhampton in case William's birth wasn't entered as Wolverhampton. There were no Hannah Griffiths married to a James.
Have you got William's marriage certificate to confirm his father's name?
Regards
Bill
Dear Bill
I'm hoping to receive details this week as William served in the army in India and was married there so it hasn't been easy to track this info down either!
Thanks again
Jax
