If a entry of birth on a registar has been made by mistake and has not been spotted is the name they are registered by thier name and does this mean all other certs are null and void.
Example:- Ada Eliza Stredwick as per head stone and marrige cert.
Possible name on Birth cert STRUDWICK
i know that entries can be changed but this was done in 1876.

    Hi Trevour,

Not at all, Whilst I will not go into details my wife's birth certificate has a note on the far left resulting in her surname being altered / corrected.

Name spellings can and do change from census to census and from birth certificate to marriage certificate. It could be down to the person in question perhaps not being able to spell and the enumerater spelling how the name may sound bearing in mind local dialects.

So far I have come across 5 different ways of spelling my surname of Milligan and some of the changes are between parents and children!

    It adds to the challenge.
    Trust that helps
    Regards
    Spike

    Hi Trevor,
As well as the spelling the writting standard can have a bearing as the letters e, a and u could be miss read. As we know on the census returns it can be very differcult making out the letters.
    Regards
    Spike
