Hi, You can get the index number online on the 1837 site, but they do charge as a pay per view, the indexes are also on microfiche in local record offices and some main libraries, my local one is free, but it might be worth checking and also book a microfiche reader in advance as this hobby is getting very popular, best wishes, Jean

County record offices and many large libraries have the GRO indexes available on microfiche. They are free to search, but you may need to ring ahead and book a fiche reader.
The Gloucestershire Record Office (in Gloucester) definitely have them.

A growing number of entries have been transcribed by volunteer for the FreeBMD project so you can search online. I think they are about 2/3 done now, but there is very little in their database after 1910. There's a page showing the coverage on the website. For newer stuff I'd use the fiche. Check the Gloucestershire Record Office website before you go for opening times etc.
