Researching my husband's side of the family tree I have come across a member of his family who had been awarded an M.B.E
My question is , is there anywhere I can found out what this m.b.e was awarded for ?
If you know when the award was made, newspapers take great pleasure in filling column space with them. There are only a couple of lists per year. Nationals seem to put general headings, but the local papers usually go to town.
If you write to the Ceremonial Secretariat at the Cabinet Office they should be able to help you. I wrote to them a few weeks ago and recently received a letter confirming that an ancestor had received a CBE, when he received it and why he had received it. They also enclosed a photocopy of the London Gazette with the relevant honours list. Good luck!
Thank you for your help, I will certainly give it a go.
Thanks again
Caroline
