Hi everyone- I am in a nightmare situation and I was wondering if anyone could help. My great grandmother Emily Archer was born in Aston, Warwickshire in the early 1900s, but this is all I know about her. I have searched FreeBMD and there are 2 possible birth dates- so I can't even get her birth certificate to find out more. I know that she married a Percy George Hobrow but I have no idea of the date. Does anyone know what I can do to find out more? I have a possible family but I am not sure if it is right (because of the 2 possible birth dates). Thanks, frm devil_lena

Sorry- i meant she was born in the early 1890s, not 1900s, frm devil_lena

Remember that FreeBMD is not complete, so there may actually be more than two possible birth dates. You have probably reached the limit of free resources and would need to subscribe to something like 1837online or Family Relatives, which have complete records. If you search these sites you may be able to narrow it down. If not, you may need to buy both birth certificates in order to eliminate one. The information you will get on the certificate is NOT available anywhere else without paying for it.

Again, for the marriage you would need to search one of the subscription sites to identify the date before ordering the certificate. There is no free BMD information available beyond about 1910.

Thanks anisel- i want to use 1837online and ancestry.co.uk, as it has given me some useful information about my great grandfather through the limited part of it that is free. The problem is- my mom is really funny about giving her credit card details online so its proving difficult to find the information i need on the free sites. I'll have to try and persuade her- thanks again frm devil_lena

I think you can assure her that sites like 1837online use the highest degree of internet security available.

Hi - Emily was 9 on the 1901 census. Daughter of
Edward Archer (46) and Elizabeth Archer (45). Children: Harriet (17), William (13), Clara (11), Emily (9), Lily (7), Elsie (4), Thomas (2) and Edward (19). They lived at 47 Priory Rd, Aston Manor Warwickshire. This could possibly mean her birth was the earlier of the two Aston births. If you apply for her birth certificate you can stipulate that you only want her certificate if her parents are Edward and Elizabeth Archer. That way if it is not the right one you will only have to pay a nominal amount to cover administration costs. Hope that helps.

Thanks everyone- I have got some new information that Emily died in 1953, aged either 60 or in the year coming up to her 60th birthday so this means she was either born in 1892 or 1893. Thanks jc26red- i will look into that family. frm devil_lena
