Hi all I am looking for the Archer family of Aston, Birmingham, Warwickshire. All I know is that they had a daughter, Emily Archer (my great grandmother) born in 1893. My mother remembers having 2 great-aunts called Nellie (short for Helen?) and Elsie who she believes are her sisters- but she is not sure about this. If anyone has any information regarding her parents, any other siblings or anything really, I would be grateful. Thanks- from devil_lena

Hi, Have you found Emily in 1901?, I can only find one born in the right year and place, parent are Edward and Elizabeth, it is quite a large family, but there is also an Elsie, but can't see an Ellen, if you feel this is the correct family I could give you the full details and check in earlier census's for you, best wishes, Jean

Hi Spike and Cassie7- thank you both. I think that is the right family Spike- all I know for definate is that Emily was born in 1893 so I am not 100% but I will research it and see what I can find out- thanks
I would be grateful if you could look further into the family that you found Cassie7- as I dont have access to any census but the 1901, and I couldn't find an Emily Archer of the correct age but I dont think I have access to the full census- so that is probably why. Thanks again both of you, from devil_lena

    Hi devil_lena,
I believe that I have found Emily's father's parents and family which were living at 4, James Place, Holbourne, Aston, Birminghag, Warwickshire on the 1871 census.

John Archer, born abt 1827 Birmingham.

Mary, wife born abt. 1827 Dawley, Shropshire.

EDWARD, son born abt. 1854 Birmingham.

George, son born abt. 1856 St. Mary, Birmingham.

Henry, son born abt. 1858 St. Georges, Birmingham

Alice, daughter born about 1859 All Saints, Birmingham.

Walter, son born abt. 1870 St. Clement, Birminham.

    Sorce info:RG10/3153. Reg Dist. Aston.
    Folio 14. Page 21

Please remeber that year of birth can vary by at least one year depending where in the year they were born in relation to the night of the census.

Trust this is the right family.
    Regards, Spike

Thanks a lot Spike- you've saved me a lot of researching and- if it is indeed the right family (which I think it is)- I've found my first 2 great great great grandparents. The furthest I've got with researching Emily's husband Percy Hobrow's side of the family is up to his parents- great great grandparents- so your help is very much appreciated in adding a higher branch to my family tree- thanks again from devil_lena

Hi, The family Spike found in 1901 was the same family I came across, the trouble is you say Emily was born in 1893, how certain are you of this?, only I have found the same family in 1891, but Emily is 4 days old, these are the details, Edward 36, A Wire Drawer, wife Elizabeth 35, Edward J, age 9, Harriet E, age 7, Mary E, age 5, Henry W, age 3, Clara C, age 2 and Emily age 4 days, the address was 3, Waterworks st, Aston Manor, Warwickshire, best wishes, Jean

My mom told me that Emily was born in 1893 as she remembers that she died in 1953 aged 60 exactly- but as she wasnt born until 1957 herself i suppose she could be wrong? I also couldn't find a matching Emily Archer born in 1893 so I think this detail may be incorrect. I am seeing my auntie later in the week- she is older than my mom and will know more details about whether the exact date is 1893- thanks for your help Jean frm devil_lena

Hi, There seem to be two possible births for Emily first Emily Elizabeth Archer Aston June 1891 6d 423 and Emily Archer Aston Dec 1893 6d 232, do you have a marriage certificate for Emily?, if so you could ask the GRO to check which is yours by checking her father's name, best wishes, Jean

Hi Jean- I think it is more likely that the correct birth is the later one in 1893, because I don't think she had a middle name and this is the date I think is more likely. However, according to your's and Spike's previous information, her mother's name was Elizabeth, so perhaps they passed it on as her middle name? I am now going to point my research in this direction as I want to find out more about Emily's side of the family, so hopefully I will be able to find which is the correct birth date and other information. I don't have a marriage certificate, but I know that Emily and her husband Percy Hobrow had a daughter, Gladys in 1919 (she was their only surviving child, and also the eldest), so the date of marriage must have been between about 1909 (at the very earliest) and 1919, most probably around 1917-ish. Thanks again for your help, frm devil_lena
