Hiya i would be really grateful if someone who has access to the 1891 census could tell me if Henry George Hobrow (born in Middlesex, London abt 1843) is still alive then. I don't think he was because he is missing from the 1901 census and by then the rest of the family had moved back to his wife's (Mary Elizabeth Hobrow's) place of birth in Maidstone, Kent after living in London. I have a theory that he died in 1885, after Mary was pregnant with what i believe to be her third child, my great grandfather Percy George Hobrow, as he was born in Kent while his 2 elder siblings were born in London. The knowledge that he was not alive in 1891 wold almost confirm this for me. Also, if Henry W.P. Hobrow was alive in 1891 would be useful. Many thanks, devil_lena

    Hi devil_lena,
Do you know where Henry George may have been living when he may have died. There is a few dying in Lodon / Middlesex and it may help to narrow the field.
    Regards

    Hi Spike
I know that in 1881 he was living at No.8 4rd Avenue, Chelsea, London from the census, so i presume he was still living there as i believe he died in 1885- the only other place he could have died is Maidstone in Kent.
    Thanx, frm devil_lena

    Hi

Looking at ancestry.com I found the family in 1891 under the name Hobson. Looking at the orginal it is Hobrow. The original isn't very clear but it looks like Mary is married not widowed, but she is 'Head'.

Hobson, Edith M abt 1878 London, Middlesex, England Daughter Maidstone Kent
Hobson, Eleanor K abt 1882 London, Middlesex, England Daughter Maidstone Kent
Hobson, Henry W abt 1880 London, Middlesex, England Son Maidstone Kent
Hobson, Mary E abt 1852 Maidstone, Kent, England Head Maidstone Kent
Hobson, Percy G abt 1886 Maidstone, Kent, England Son Maidstone Kent

    The reference is RG12 688 folio 56 page 8.

I also looked at the deaths between 1883-1920 and there are no reference to either a Henry George or Henry W.P. In fact no Henry's are registered.

    Regards

Hi Bill- thanks a lot. That is definately the family I am looking for and it also proves Percy Hobrow's (my great grandfather's) mother is Mary Hobrow- who i suspected it was. It also gives me more information on some brother's and sisters I never knew existed as I had some information from the 1881 census, so I only knew about the 2 eldest- Edith and Henry. In 1881, Mary and the 2 eldest children were living in Chelsea with Mary's husband and their father, Henry George Hobrow, and another unknown relation, Elizabeth Hobrow. But by 1886 Mary and the children had moved back to her birthplace of Maidstone, Kent, and from your information, presumably without Henry. I presumed he had died, but perhaps they got divorced? Thanks for your information- it has been very helpful- from devil_lena

P.S. Can anyone think of a reason why the family would suddenly move from Chelsea in London to the mother's birthplace of Maidstone, Kent? I assumed that the father Henry George Hobrow had died, but as his death isnt registered for that period i'm starting to think of other reasons. The only one I can think of is that they got divorced- are there some kinds of divorce records possible to view online? Any help would be greatly appreciated, frm devil_lena

    Hi devil_lena,
Other than death or divorce perhaps Henry George HOBROW (HOBSON) occupartion ie., army or navy etc may have caused the family to return the Maidston.
