Is there a website somewhere that tells you which Registration District a particular place fell/falls under, please?
If I'm searching for someone born in a part of the country I know quite well, I can often guess which would be the Registration District, or find it by looking at a map, but that's not always the case, and it got me wondering how other folks solve this problem.
Any ideas, please?

STG, don't know if this is what you mean.
If you knew the county this may help. If the county is known click on it and then it gives names of districts within that county.

Oooo! I've saved that to my favourites, 'cos it might be quite useful, but I was hoping for a site where you could just put name of the place and it would tell you which RD it was under.
Still, defo better than nothing.
Thanks Bash.

From that same site download the index of place names. I think that would do the trick for you.
