I am ridiculously excited!
I ordered a birth certificate from GRO over the internet last weekend, and it's arrived today ahead of schedule.
It's the birth certificate of my g.grandmother, Mary Hemming, b. 2 March 1842 at Cleeve Prior, Worcs, d/o Charles Hemming, labourer, and Emmaline Hemming formerly Silvester.
On various census records, Emmaline (v.spellings are available) gives her place of birth at Marlcliffe, Warks (which now seems to be part of Bideford-upon-Avon), and her dob works out at 1814.
I can find:
- an Emmely Silvester, d/o John and Mary Silvester who was christened on 21 April 1814 at Cleeve Prior, Worcs (just along the road from Marlcliffe)
- and a marriage of a John Silvaster on 17 April 1806 at Cleeve Prior, but no bride info
- and a christening of a John Silvester on 1 May 1783 at Cleeve Prior, s/o Henry and Ann Silvester
but I can't find a marriage between Charles and Emmaline - Oh well, not to worry, happens in the best of families.
Does it sound as if I'm on the right track, do you think?

Hi Bash
> There's a couple of trees on Ances....
And one of 'em is mine - probably the one with her surname on, 'cos I added it about 30 minutes ago!
I've tried all ways up to find a marriage that would fit with Maria being born in 1831 (or even after), but absolutely no joy.
I might ask on the RC Worcs board to see if anyone has access to the actual PRs.
Still v.excited.
