Married name is Hilton. Husband was Allen. I can see them together in 1901 with 3 children Claris 1892 Arthur 1894 & Mabel 1900.

However in 1911 she appears to be with a John James? Hilton 37 Mabel 11 which is fine and a William Dempsey Hilton 3 where did he come from and where is Allen?

Can anyone see the relationships given for me please? If she lost Allen and married again then she wouldn't still be a Hilton so JJ may be some other relative.

    I found this household in 1911 :

    Name: Julia Hilton
    Age in 1911: 40
    Estimated Birth Year: abt 1871
    Relation to Head: Mother
    Gender: Female
    Birth Place: Huddersfield, Yorkshire, England
    Civil parish: Huddersfield
    County/Island: Yorkshire-West Riding
    Country: England
Street Address: 45 Milford St Huddersfield Yorkshire
    Marital Status: Married
    Occupation: Wooolen Feder In Mill
    Registration district: Huddersfield
    Registration District Number: 495
    Sub-registration district: Huddersfield
    ED, institution, or vessel: 01
    Piece: 26286
    Household Members: Name Age
    Patrick Dempsey 46
    Julia Hilton 40
    Mable Hilton 11
    William Dempsey Hilton 3

Patrick is down as "father of William", single, labourer in chemical works, b. Ashton underline (sic!), Lancs
Julia, married, 10 yrs, 5 children born, 4 alive, 1 died
    Mable, b. Huddersfield
    William b. Huddersfield

Does this help, or merely confuse?

Will now see if I can find Allan if you like.

Can't seem to find Allan, but then A*y hasn't fully indexed the 1911 census yet, so he may be somewhere that I can't see.

smiley - yikes the plot thickens. She married Allen Hilton in 1891 so who has she been married to for 10 years in 1911?! In 1901 she is with Allen and 3 children including Mabel.

I believe Julia dies as a Hilton so she didn't marry Mr Dempsey.
Bit brazen isn't it - father single, mother married and a child to boot.

Yes please would like to know where the husband was in all this. Imagine he was still around so she couldn't marry Mr D.

Still can't find Allen, and have tried other trees on A*y, but he's not there either.

This seems to be young William's birth:

Well done Bash. I've now tried searching for Allen with Claris; Claris with Allen and Claris on her own, but none of them come up on A*y for 1911.

A*y does have a possible death for Allen in 1956 in Huddersfield.

Oh good work guys thanks. Clearly husband and wife went their seperate ways what a shame.

I don't have a death for Allen but Julia I believe died in 1950 (least I found a death for a Julia A Hilton in that year right age) so he shouldn't have been marrying any of his servants before then.

The 1911 is all Greek to me smiley - laugh

If Allen did remarry before his first wife died hmmm. He would have been quite elderly by the time he married Isabel. Divorced from Julia do you think?

As an aside I found Mabels second name was Pretoria.

Tourmie , that marriage info is on Free BMD, so you can take a look and see , ( tho I suppose it COULD be a different couple with the same names ) Maybe they thought that Julia was already dead by then !

That makes me feel a bit better, bash. I thought I was just being thick!

I like Tourmie's remark that Allen shouldn't have been marrying "any of his servants". Like he was rich enough to afford a household full on a working man's wage!

Thanks for the additional info. I'm still fretting about Allen marrying one of his servants whilst his first wife was still alive. They waited 30 years plus after all, all I can think is it was now or never as he was in his 70's by then smiley - erm
