Edward Bury, born 1794 in Salford, Lancs, was married in 1830 to a Miss Falkner.
He was then a widower, his first wife having died in childbirth - the baby died too. But I'm trying to find out who his first wife was. Any suggestions or advice would be welcome.
Familysearch has these two same marriage so it may be two of the same church under both names, or the are the cheshire Prs Scroll down until you see them and they are the actual registers and you may need to sign in and trawl through them in date order

hmm... me thinks you know more about this gentleman than you are letting on! there is even a picture of him!
Just google the man and his 2nd wife's full name is there for all to see as she is also a well known person in her own right.
I would also be interested in knowing how you know he was widowed without seeing his marriage entry in 1830 to "Miss" Faulkner? Its not mentioned anywhere else
BTW her biography online is not quite correct, she had 3 sons not one

In 1841 both 2 youngest boys are at school in West Derby, parents are not apparent
Going back to Edwards earlier profession of Timber merchant, a business he appears to have inherited from his father John Bury...
"Edward Bury was born in Salford, Lancashire, the son of a timber merchant, and was educated at Chester. "
By 1823 he was a partner in Gregson & Bury's steam sawmill at (Pack-saw mill) Toxteth Park, Liverpool, this partnership was disolved in January 1826, Matthew Gregson carried on the timber business without Edward Bury. John Bury had died sometime before 1824
Given the Liverpool location, you might want to concider the following substancial marriage:
marriage announcement
Liverpool Mercury etc (Liverpool, England), Friday, October 20, 1826 Issue 804
Edward Bury of this town to Isabella, eldest daughter of the late Joseph Matthews Esq of Wavertree
Name: Edward Bury
Marriage Date: 12 Oct 1826

I can't find a death announcement for a Mrs Bury
Edwards obit
The Morning Chronicle (London, England), Friday, December 3, 1858
On the 25th ult, at Scarborough, Edwrd Bury Esq, of Croft Lodge, Windermere age 66
This makes him a shade older than everyone on the web has him!
I think I rmember Edna posting info on a Liverpool site somewhere but I can't find it and didn't save the link as it wasn't relevant to my personal research.

Having heard about the first Mrs Bury from a vague anecdotal account from a relative, and having done a bit of digging without getting anywhere, I put my query on this board without much hope of any response. So I am overwhelmed by the speed of the replies, the amount of material you have found, and the amount you have taken the trouble to transcribe.
You have saved me hours of work and long trips to Manchester and Liverpool - all of which might have been useless in any event, given my inexperience.
I am very, very, grateful to all of you for your help.
