    Hi

My Mum has two birth certicates with two different surnames. 1. her mother's name from first marriage 2. father's name.
Her mother married her father (name on 2nd birth certicate) 4 years after my mum was born and re-registered the birth a year later.

On the birth record there is pencil mark stating 'm'.

How easy was it to change a birth certicate and why would you? Did the mother have to use her surname, even the biological father was a different name?

Any help would be gratefully received

    Many thanks

    hayley

I have two for a family member, the mother registered the birth in her married name to her first husband but the childs first and midde name were that of the real father, a year later she reregistered the birth in the fathers name and later married him.

The m may stand for marriage being the reason for name change my family one had an s next to the registration number instaed of the usual volume number.

    Edna
