I have a birth registration for Alexander Dickenson Sept qtr 1876 West Derby,Liverpool.
I am convinced that this was the brother of my Gt Grandmother Margaret Amelia Dickenson b.5.Feb 1878 West Derby,Liverpool.
My Gt Grandmothers parents were Joseph Dickenson & Mary Ellen Ball.
Joseph died in 1879.However in the 1881 census Alexander is not there with Mary E.Dickenson (mother) & Margaret Amelia Dickenson (sister) who had moved to Wigan & were living with Mary's parents.
Can anyone find a possible death for Alexander Dickenson .
Could this be him in 1881 with his other grandparents?
Miles DICKENSON Head M Male 56 Tarporley, Cheshire, England Primitive Minister
Ann A. DICKENSON Wife M Female 55 Isle of Man, England
Robert H. DICKENSON Son U Male 22 Northwich, Cheshire, England Grocer
Alexander DICKENSON G Son U Male 5 Liverpool
Hmmm well that little chap is still with grandparents in 1891.

Wow! this is amazing.
I had never even thought to look at the census etc.for Alexander being with his other Grandparents.
Yes indeed, this is them.Thank you so much.
Joseph Dickensons parents were Miles Dickenson & Ann Amelia Dickenson(nee Harp)
I think the 1891c had a enumerator error with Susannah Dickenson. It should have read Ann Amelia.
Miles Dickenson died Ormskirk 19th May 1898.
I would like to know if possible what/where Alexander ended up.Miles had been a Primitive Methodist Minister & his 4 sons,Alexander,Joseph,Silas & Robert Henry all were Lay Preachers. It would be interesting to find if Alexander went down that road.

Just done another check of the details I have for Miles Dickenson my 3xGt Grandfather. In 1886 he was widowed when Ann Amelia died 8B620 March qtr Ormskirk.
Miles last ministry was in 1889 in Southport,so I presume that Susannah Dickenson in 1891c was a 2nd spouse for him.
Glad it was the right family
Here's the first marriage but I can't see a second to Susannah.

My Alexander Dickenson was b.West Derby but Miles his grandad was born Cheshire with most of the family coming from around Nantwich & Tarporley.
Perhaps as he was only 3yrs when he was taken to live with his grandparents he may have assumed that is where he was born.Although on the 1881c it does say he was born W.Derby.

No,I hadn't seen this & it is very interesting.I am wondering who Maria Dunning (spinster ) is who she left her money to.
Maria Hurlbutt (nee Dickenson) was the eldest of 6 sisters & 2 brothers. She first married William Hurlbutt in 1843 Nantwich Dec qtr but by 1851c she was widowed. In 1853 8a 465 she had married Thomas Dunning.I have not got the names of any of her children other than Martha.Maria was also a twin to Ann who married a Thomas Egerton.
Hannah Dunning nee Dickenson the sister of Maria was also a twin.Maria & Ann were the eldest b.1821 & Hannah & Catherine were the youngest.
I have the children of Hannah & there isn't a Maria amongst them,so I wonder if Martha had a half sister from her mothers 2nd marriage to Thomas Dunning.

Just out of interest I looked on the Postal Service Appt Books and there is an Alex Dickenson who was a sorting clerk in 1893 in Southport which seems to fit.

Hi Tourmie,
I am sure this will have been my Alexander Dickenson as like you say it all seems to fit.
I feel so sad that he & my Gt Grandmother Margaret Amelia had been split up at an early age.Alexander 3 yrs & Margaret A . only 1yr
My Mum & her younger sister were practically brought up by Margaret & they say that she always said she would have liked a brother or sister so it appears that neither of them knew of each other. How sad is that!
Margaret had 7 children of her own.I wonder if Alex had any?
