I think I have done quite well with finding my dad's side of the family BUT hit a brick wall after 1901 census. 1911 census doesn't seem to have them at all ...
1891 in Bolton
1901 in Manchester Samuel Taylor aged 40 wife Jane Taylor children Albert (aged 17 - I believe this to be my grandfather); Thomas 14, Annie 12 Samule 6 Beatrice 3.
I have tried searching everyone of them in the 1911 census ... maybe I have the wrong family and they went abroad??? but I couldn't find another Albert Taylor born in Bolton 1884 ...
my grandfather married in 1925 aged 40 and this was in Bolton where they lived until their deaths.
I found these baptisms on Lancashire On Line Parish Clarke (lan-opc)
How can you be sure you have the right Albert? do you have any proof

Do you have the marriage cert for Albert

Taylor Albert Haslam Bolton 8c 906
Taylor Albert Bromley Bolton 8c 803
Thanks for all the above!
I now think I have the incorrect Albert Taylor in my first post.
I did another search as my dad had an auntie Alice - she must have married my dad's uncle and I found Joseph Taylor born 1887 who married Alice Pope 1922, Bolton. Joseph had a brother Albert born 1884 and their mother was Mary Ann Taylor, listed as a widow aged 39 in the 1901 census. Also listed Thomas, William, Sarah Ann, Mary Ellen, Lilly, Annie as children. Bingo I thought! Then cannot trace Mary Ann in 1891 nor 1911 census (latter seems to be only a summary which doens't help)
No I don't have any certificates ... but he did marry Martha Ellen Haslam in 1925 and they had my dad 26/12/26, also Albert Taylor.

Taylor Albert Haslam Bolton 8c 599
Only one child born in Bolton
If you dont get the correct information in the beginning you can go off on a wrong path and time and effort lost so it ios advisable to get the cert for their marriage which will give their fathers names

Thank you - I am quite new to all of this so forgive my ignorance - where do I get a copy of this from (cheapest place please?)!

You can get it from the by ordering from this link for Β£9.25 or you can get one from the Bolton register office same price, if you live locally you can go and ask to see the parish records which will be on microfilm for free if they have them but need to know where the marriage took place to do this.
Never buy certs from other places on line as they overcharge the on line one above is the government one and you will need the reference numbers above and tick the box which asks do you have the reference numbers
Edna
Thank you very much for your help.
The marriage cert should give you the name and occupation of both fathers which then make the search easier to find them
