I am hoping someone can help me or point me in the right direction.
Charles Plato married Ann Barlow 01 Apr 1789 at St Martins in the Bullring, Birmingham. They both signed the register, Their witnesses were Joseph Allen and Mary Hanson but these names haven't brought forth anything.
They went on to have 7 children three born in Birmingham and baptized at the Franciscan Mission and the rest in London. He died in 1836.
Where did he come from, I cannot find anything about him at all and hope that someone may have some suggestions. He was in the jewellery trade and I have a date of birth of 1766 but no idea where I got that from!
Thanks

Edna it looks like the OP got her information about the marriage from a thread she started on the Birmingham History Forum.
I would guess as the children were baptised RC that he wasn't English, maybe from Italy, France, Holland?
I am hoping someone can help me or point me in the right direction.

Hello Jennifer,
According to this website
the surname 'Plato' might be Spanish...
or from here?
or this?
Birmingham jewellery quarter

Have you contacted the Birmingham archives office as they may have something on him, there are Platos in London a bit earlier according to the old version of Familysearch. You should be able to trace jewellers in trade directories or other local authority records. I also suggest that you look at the Franciscan Mission lead as there may be information perhaps in London. Did Charles or Caroli leave a will as that might yield information.
Thank you.
I have started to look more closely at the Francisan Mission as there are wonderful records online.
I have found 2 more children baptised there and Ann Barlow was definitely the RC and not necessarily Charles Plato as was assumed. I shall investigate this route further.
Also the Birmingham jewellery trade will be next on the list.
So thanks again for all your suggestions.
Jennifer
