Hello, Im new to the site and was hoping some one may be able to help me trace my family history further than i already have done.
I have been led to belive that I am a very distant cousin to the royal family, though Jane seymour.
    Things i have been told....
....That we are connect though marriage to jane seymours family, the surnames Finch, Pomroy, and pritchard have all been talked about but i dont know how they link together.
If i have got this right i know jane seymour's family came over from France during the war (i think 1066) and settled in brixham Devon. In the chuch in brixham the is a family bolt, and my (cant remember which) its either great grandmother or great great grandmother was surposed to go into the last bolt but she was creamated so her sister went into it instead.
There was also a silver tea set with the Finch's family crest on which sadly got passed down an other side of the family.
I have got as far back as my 6x great gandfather Samual Finch but have hit a brick wall. I would love to trace it back to see how (if its true) its connect to jane seymour just for my own interest.
Sadly my grandmother, who was the one who knew the information has now passed away and as i am the only one in our family who is interested in finding out more, i would love to so for her.
So if anyone can help or knows anymore information i would love to hear from you. Many Thanks.

Tell us all you know about Samuel Finch. Where and when was he born? Who did he marry and when?etc. Then we can try and get further back.
It's the only way to do it.

As background, this is the connection between Pomeroy and Seymour:

Berry Pomeroy is a few miles inlnd of Brixham

Edward Seymour was Jane's brother; they were born at Wolf/Wulf Hall at Savernake in Wiltshire. I'm intrigued by this family as, when I was researching my neighbour's family I found she connected to the Seymours/Seymers in this area. I couldn't find a connection though!

You need to be extra careful when researching connections to nobility or historical persons! Don't take anybody's word for it , always check it out by using old wills, Parish Registers and other documents. Never accept family stories as true until you have proved them; many a family tale has proved to be a fairy tale! Just because you have a certain name in your family it does not mean it is a famous person, it may just be someone with the same name. Don't trust a family tree you see on the Internet, it may well be wishful thinking on someone's part.
Burke's Peerage is a list of titled people with all their forbears.
In the chuch in brixham the is a family bolt, and my (cant remember which) its either great grandmother or great great grandmother was surposed to go into the last bolt but she was creamated so her sister went into it insteadΒ
I think you meant Family VAULT, perhaps?

If you are looking at the Samual Finch links then do you have a date?, prior to 1550s there are no registers of baptisms, marriages or deaths unless they were of royallty, knights or similar. Incidentally at the time of the Norman Conquest France didn't exist as it does today, William came from Normandy and there were provinces like Brittany, Burgundy, Acquitaine, etc. Burke's may help but you need to get back to a certain period. Jane Seymour came from the Tudor period whereas our current Royal Family comes from the Hanover connection.

I would be wary of connecting fmily names together to find a possible link, it is better to find the evidence and then see where it leads.
