This is a needle in a haystack story I think and I have not much hope of finding him or being able to pin him down.

I know from my great great grandmother's birth certificate that her father was believed to be an Edward Hill and that he was a labourer. By the time she gets married a completely different person is named as her father (her step-father I believe) so I guess that Edward did not hang around all that long.

My great great grandmother was born in March 1847 in Holbeach, Lincolnshire to a Modesty Lambert and Edward Hill. I know from what people have told me that Edward must have been present at the registration to have his name put on the birth certificate, although his name is not on the baptism entry in Holbeach church. Modesty marries a Robert Grimer in 1852. In 1851 Modesty and her daughter are visiting people in Gedney Dyke - so no idea at this point where their actual home is.

Next door neighbours to where they are visiting have the surname Hill but I have traced this line and there does not seem to be an Edward connected here that I can find - but it seems too much of a coincedence for there not to be a connection.

Any help is much appreciated. Thank you

Have you posted about him before because it sounds familiar? I remember finding an Edward Hill in the census but maybe it was discounted as the wrong one.

You can click on My Discussions to the left to find any previous enquiries. There might be something there of use smiley - smiley If not then no harm in having another bash!

I had posted to see whether someone could do a parish records look up for me to see whether his name was on the baptism record as I couldn't quite make out what the name was. I was directed towards another website which I must have posted it on before and we believe that his name is Edward.

I'm now trying to see if I can find him anywhere....
