ste, do you have a last known sighting of Nellie? It does help if you can say when her last child was born and if she is in any family photos of a later date.
Without that information, you may end up with the wrong person or buying lots of certs!
Especially difficult with the name as popular as Lewis in a large city!
her last child was born 1920 in birmingham and i haven;t any photos her in regards ste
Were Nellie and Ellen her first and middle names - just asking as Nellie can be a diminutive of Ellen
Also was Hemming her maiden name or was she a Lewis who married another Lewis?
Possible death??

In 1911 the Lewis's were living at 9 Buckingham Street, Birmingham.
James/ Ellen/ Nora/ Ivy.
I notice then that James was a Labourer Iron Stamper so the only death index I can find to fit for James is at Bilston in 1948. Bilston had a big iron works so that may tie it in as well.
Ellen - Nellie - died in Birmingham in 1943.
Hope this helps. I can let you have the 1911 census form if you can't access it yourself.
thank you all this is a great help
