oh my.... someone is being really mean and trigger happy. And what is wrong with trying to help the poppy appeal at this time of year
sadly I don't have any close family that died but posted the link on my FB home page to spread the word.

I got really annoyed with the mods a few weeks ago. Somebody on one of the History boards posted a link to Twitter, and at once several people said they weren't registered with Twitter.
WELL, we are not allowed links to RC ToT on the grounds that you have to be a registered member to access it (and that is supposedly agin the rules) so I triangled it on those grounds. My complaint was overruled. I tried again, explaining the grounds for complaint and pointing out that that particular rule is enforced on the FH board, but was again turned down.
Obviously one rule for us and another for the rest! Still, we are used to that.
"Nil bastardus carborundum", as they say.

I cannot imagine what possessed someone to object to raising money for the poppy appeal.
Do they not realise that if it wasn't for those who gave their lives there would not be the freedom we have today?
Raunds, I agree with your final comment.

Possibly this person was not alive at the time and does not know how lucky they are to be able be alive now.
We owe these brave people a great deal ... we owe them our lives, and the chance to live them.
Rules is rules, but there often comes a time when rules can be waved for the greater good.

I would be much obliged if, after moderation, this thread is said to be in breach of any rules of the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ if as a matter of courtesy the supervisor to whom it has been referred could post the full reasons. Bearing in mind the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ is not adverse to showing the Armistice Day parades I would like to know what rule is broken by publishing the existence of this link which raises money for a very good cause. Many thanks

This posting has been hidden during moderation because it broke the in some way.
I think that we need a decision soon and a public announcement over the reasons, it has now been 3 days and Armistice Day is on Friday.

OK so two of my posts have now been removed and here is the reason why
Your post was considered to have broken the following House Rule:
"We reserve the right to fail comments which...
Advertise products or services for profit or gain."
So a Poppy Day appeal is considered an advertisement for Profit or Gain
Nice one Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ

Well the page on FB for the appeal now knows the Beeb think that the Poppy Appeal is advertising for Profit or Gain

So if that's the case then why do all the Beeb presenters etc wear poppies, if their employer thinks the Poppy Appeal is a profit/gain organisation !
Link to this forum: Ancestry Tribute Fundraiser, add your relative
That would look really good if we were minded to write to our MP/ local paper/national newspaper, or whatever! Especially as the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ are so quick to report stories of shops etc not allowing their employees to wear a poppy!

What utter hypocrisy!
I suppose the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ have never shown sport that is plastered with adverts around the grounds, on the vehicles, on boards as the sportsmen/women are interviewed...no, the holier-than-thou beeb would never do that...

Now I see it is a big international genealogy dot com, that is giving one pound to the poppy appeal every time somebody makes a tribute. A very worthy way of them spending their charity budget, and I am a member of this dot com, I pay yearly and get very good value for money. But there is always a rub, they are hoping in their way to get new subscribers and to advertise their services. So The mods are keeping the rules and not allowing it.
BUT, the one who pressed the complaints button must be feeling very smug. Well done you, you just single handedly denied the Poppy Appeal some very useful freeby pounds. Pat yourself on the back.
Sometimes I wonder why they all died, or if they indeed died in vain. maybe we shouldnt have fought, then vertboten and blind blinkered rule keeping would be a way of life

If I remember rightly, the boards are actually run and administered by an outside IT firm. Still, as the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ make the rules, they should apply them more evenhandedly!

If the boards run and administered by an outside IT firm, as Raunds thinks, then only one thing pops into my mind

There is a point that ancestry are going to make some money out of it (I assume!) but it seems to be a heavy handed decision by the moderators, on a good cause. Let's not forget the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ publicity for Findmypast the other week for the show of the same name!. and I am sure Findmypast hope to get more subscribers.

It doesnt appear Ancestry are making money out of it, that is the point Dmatt. They are offering to give Β£1 for any post made on the board, no money changes hands from the person who makes the post to them for this .
I would like a reply as a matter of courtesy to my post number 10 above please Mods

Jackie the only way you will get a responce from the mods is if the triangler reports your message otherwise they wont read it.
I have had a reply to my appeal but message 11 was considered to be a repost of message 1 but I have explained I added it not as a working link so not a rule breaker, but they are still considering message 1

But how long does it take to make a decision?. Perhaps we need someone from the British Legion to help convince the moderators and to point out that they are losing donations.

I see that the appeal is now up to Β£7,705 of the Β£10,000 maximum, so it is doing well.
Still, would have been nice if the Beeb could have seen its way clear to supporting the idea.
