As an avid follower of the programme, I became more excited when I watched the Matthew Pinset episode of this series. I've been researching my family tree for nearly 20 years and have a lot of information on hundreds of people over the centuries. Last year I decided to make a start on my husband's family after hitting a brick wall with my own. In just 2 DAYS I had got back to the year 545AD!!! I had spent 48 continuous hours online researching and was absolutely astounded at what I found! There has been a rumour in my mum-in-laws family that they descend a family called Pomeroy, close to William the Conqueror, so I set out to find out. What I found was links to a large number of noble houses, then links to minor European royalty and finally to King Edward 1st! It turns out my husband is a direct legitimate decendant of Edward 1st and all his predecessors, including William the Conqueror himself! So when we watched the episode with Matthew Pinset, I got more and more excited as they mentioned more and more names I know are on my husband's tree! I even worked out my husband and children's relationship to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, to find my husband is her 23rd cousin and our children are 24th cousins to Prince Charles and his siblings! One particular thing that interested me, was that my husband was directly decended from King John AND about half of the Barons involved in the Magna Carta!!
Are any other members decended from the royal family? I'd be really interested to hear other people's stories about this.

Yes and the next thing we know you will be related to God and every other tree in existence.

People research for many years to get back to 1600s and can prove every link to every person they have found, but in two days some people can claim to be conected to Royalty without purchasing a certificate to validate their findings and then collect up all the names in a tree in one fell swoop.
Suddenly you will be related to everyone on the universe.

I bet you will be storing all this information on AnXXstry too

But where do the Disney Characters come in to it.

    Welcome to the board

smiley - biggrin It's good to start the day with a laugh!
What you have found is other people's 'research' Can you prove any of it? Do you have the documentation to back it up? It takes years of careful research to create a real tree.
According to a tree on Ancestry, I am related to, amongst other famous people, Lady Godiva & Alfred the Great, Adam & Eve & of course God. Although apparently God's mother was an Irish woman, but I'm not too sure about that....
Good for a laugh but that's all.

I know that it can be exciting to get really far back but I think the 6th Century is extremely rare.

It is very rare that people can get back before the 17th century, I have spent 30 years and the farthest back I have got is about 1680 as the marriage registers were lost in a fire in 1712. In my personal view unless you have certficates each step of the way then the research is of very limited use and before 1553 there are no registers!. We could all look up The Bible and claim we were related to Moses on the basis of a name the same as ours, but probably there are no connections. We should not forget that the Royal Family are descended from a variety of families. If you could give a (brief) resume of how you have got that far back. The earliest dates I remember was Johnny Cash who had a relative who worked for King David I of Scotland and it was said that this had been researched.

you have to remember with the Matthew Pinsett episode, the researchers actually verifiedl his line till they reached a name which occured in Burkes peerage and the rest is history as they say..... smiley - biggrin

If I were you I would start verifying everything from your husband back...

also take note.... Burkes is not absolute TRUTH! shock horror, I've found errors! all be it, a slight variance in the line which ends back up to the same man, but you do have to still check! Once you hit on a peerage, you will find you connect at every level.

ps... don't take Ancestry or family search trees too seriously...they are well known for their ...err fabrications
