Having not been able to find a suitable candidate for George Hinchliffe through the ages (born c1835 Huddersfield to James and Sarah last seen 1851 census aged 16 woolen finisher man)

I got a death certificate for a George aged 24 who died in 1860 but am not sure he is my man either. Address is Grove Place Dalton which I haven't come across before and he was a journeyman cotton dyer.

The informant was a Joseph Hinchliffe. Doesn't give the relationship but he was present at the death so I am thinking if he was unmarried and living at home Joseph was a family member father/brother perhaps.

All I can think is to try and find a Joseph in 1861 to see if there is one living in the same area. Not entirely sure but if there is one the right age to be his father might I rule this one out also smiley - erm

If so back to square one again!

Thanks for replying. I don't think either of those are my missing George due to the fathers name and the birthplace. The one marrying with Joseph as a father also can't be the one that died so am no further forward. He wouldn't have had 2 sons called George at the same time.

Do you think it would help to find Joseph or no? I'm confused what direction to take now to be honest. If I did find him in 1861 at same address would it help or hinder.

I found this likely 'suspect'! Although there is a disparity of birthplace the age seems to match up. I know when I've been searching my family getting myself in a twist tyring to fathom out who is who especially as similar aged cousins often got given the same names - most frustrating...I'll have another look for you...

Ok - I think I get it now! re: Joseph...given as yet you don't know anything about George Hinchcliffe I wouldn't worry too much about looking for a 'Joseph' - it might be the red herring you don't need for now...concentrate on finding George me thinks...unless of course any other posters can think of something?
