    Hello

Does anyone have access to Probate Calendars that would be willing to do a look up of a Will for me?

The person I'm looking for is

Richard Bellamy of Billinghay, Lincolnshire. He was a farmer and died 1st October 1828 and the executor of the Will was his widow Susannah Bellamy.

I think that he had a Will - have an unconfirmed source - but would like this confirming that this in fact belongs to my Richard and not another.

    Thank you

I've looked on all the sites to which I have a subscription but have not come up with a will.

He is not listed on the probate calendars. Are you sure he left a will? How do you know his wife was executor if you're unsure there's a will.

Did he own the land or was he a tenant farmer, it's easy to mistakenly think he owned the land when in fact it was only rented.

The information came up when I did a general google search under his name and it gave his details, death date (which matched up with his burial date) and his occupation. It also said that his wife was the executor. When I clicked the link it took me to a person's family tree and the details were on here but unconfirmed so I'm not 100% sure which was why I asked about the probate calendars because I didn't want to pay out for a will that wasn't his.

I know he was a tenant farmer - his name and his wife's name are listed as farmers, but not as owners in a hoistorical document for the area where they lived.

I've just googled the name same as you and found the tree.
If you click on the home page, you will see an email address of the tree owner, I would make contact and ask them where you can find the will.... It does seem strange that they gave the date of death then only gave an approx date for the will. If they had a copy surely they would also know the date of administration.

doh just realised why its not in the probate calendars!

calendar indexes online are 1861-1941 smiley - blush

Before 1858, Lincolnshirew was in the province of Canterbury and the diocese of Lincoln. Also check the PCY (York)

Lincolnshire archives has a copy on CD of the Lincoln Consistory Court 1801-1858 plus earlier Lincolnshire dates. They also hold a printed index.

The Society of Genealogists also holds a TS index t o Lincs wills and Admons 1731-1857 in the PCY (York)

extracted from Probate Jurisdictions by Jerremy Gobson and Else Churchill

I agree, I don't thnk that the person has found a will. At this time, it could be in the Prerogative Court of Canterbury records (held at The National Archives, Kew), in the Prerogative Court of York or a local church court for Lincolnshire (where the archives office is now closed for about 3 months).

    Thanks everyone

I found a website called Lincs to the Past which has documents, images and articles relating to stuff they have at the Lincolnshire Archives. I did a search on there for a Will and it came up with a reference to a Will that matches the dates/year when Richard died so am hoping that this is Richard's will.

However I now no longer live in Lincolnshire, thanks to hubby being in the RAF , although my parents still do, so cannot visit the archives in person (although they are closed at the moment). However hubby is putting in for a psoting back to Coningsby in the new year so hopefully if all goes to plan I should be able to get up to the archives myself and check this reference out.
