Hi Guys,
Looking for infor on my great Grandad:
50974 A/Bdr RJ Marsh was awarded the Military Medal on 21st October
1916 whilst serving in France with C Battery 81st Brigade RFA. He had
laned in France on 15th July 1915. The award of the Military Medal was published in the London Gazette-name, regiment and theatre of operation-but without citation. Virtually none of these have survived.
Could anyone find out why or where he got the medal, what it was and any other info, I know he was killed during the war but can't find him listed on War Graves records?

Do you have his full name please.
Apologies - would help
ROWLAND JOSEPH MARSH b. c.1892 inBlean,Kent. He married ANNIE ELIZABETH LAVENDER (Married December 1918 Elham 2a 2712)
Ignore the war graves thing - this is my other g-gdad!
If you can find his unit's War Diary at The National Archives, Kew (they are not yet all online), it may well state that he was awarded the Military Medal and possibly why, perhaps recording him in the action.

Finding citations for "Joe Blogg" soldiers is very rare indeed. As previously said, you need to check the war diary for the period mentioned. That would give you information as to what was happening at the time and you never know, he may get a mention. Dont bank on it though. Officers were named, NCO and privates were often not.
