Is it possible to find out his next of kin from the War Records. I have Frederick James Kendall killed in action in Aug 1915. His enlistment location is Stratford which is next door to West Ham where he was born and lived. I can't seem to find anything more about him. Any ideas where I can look next!
Do you have his dob please?

As he died his war record wil not have survived. There are several Frederick J Kendall in the censuses but assuming that he was 18 years old in 1915 that will give a start. Do you know from his enlistment records what his age was?.
Unfortunately the Commonwealth War Graves Commission certificate does not list his age nor his parents.
his service record isn't on Ancestry...
Over 60% of ther services records were destryoyed by fire, so it may not have survived
he was awarded the British and Victory Medals also the 1915 Star
entered theatre of war 17/7/1915 Balhaus
1911, the only one that fits is
KENDALL FREDERICK J M 1882 29 West Ham Essex

KENDALL FREDERICK J M 1908 3 West Ham Essex

Yes this is the family. I need to know if the Frederick I found kiiled in action is the same one. This is the nearest I have got to finding a death for him. My husband visited Emily regularly and her daughter regularly but never met Frederick and was never mentioned either. This is a mystery.
Emily had another son in 1925 but no father was ever mentioned and I cannot find a death for Frederick in West Ham where the son grew up with his mother.

Did you buy the birth cert of the son born in 1925 to see if there was mention of the father, I would have had too just to be nosey! I wonder if he was baptised.

His service record will not have survived as he died, otherwise it would be in the National Archives, Kew. MOD charge Β£30 whether they have the record or not and there is no refund if they do not have the file.
No I haven't got his birth certificate, perhaps I should get this and try and find out if he was baptised and find the records. Well thank you all very much for your help, it is much appreciated.
Update, first thank you to everyone who helped. I now have his birth certificate and there is no father named on it. Mystery solved. Once again many thanks for your help.
