Penelope Elizabeth Babb born Dec 1839 in Little Hampden Bucks to Charles and Mary Babb.
I have her in 1841 mistranscribed as Venelope living with her parents.
In March 1844 her mother dies, and in August 1844 her father dies.
She next appears in 1851 with schoolmistress Sophia Butt at Ellesborough school listed as a lodger.
In 1861 there is a Penelope β€œBaff” listed in the census as an inmate at a Penitent home in Pentonville born Buckinghamshire. This could be her.
Penelope marries William Parkinson in Sept 1868 and in 1871 is living in Clerkenwell.
They have a daughter (my grandmother) in 1873 and call her Elizabeth.
William dies in 1876 in St Bartholomews Hospital London
Penelope gets married again to a William Henry King in Hoxton in 1879.

I would love to know what happened to Penelope but no listings appear of her anywhere after this.

My grandmother appears on the 1891 census as a servant living in St Luke’s and marries my grandfather in 1893. I have all her information after that.

Hi JC and thanks.....yes I have that
    .
It seems the only time she appears is when she marries......
    Maybe she changed her name?????????

Oh well I 'll put her back in the pending tray and wait another 5 years

I had a thought that Elizabeth born 1873 may have been put on the 1881 as King, so I searched all through the 1881 census for Elizabeth King born 1873 +/- 2 years with a stepfather/father William and a mother Penelope or Elizabeth. I thought wrong.

I wonder if William had been married before and had children from that marriage in 1881 and that Penelope had died as there was a Wm King widower and 2 sons older than Elizabeth and then an Elizabeth but I couldn't find a death for Penelope King.

Yes the world at that time was very lacking in people called Penelope. She could have used her second name but still can't find any that fit with right birth year/birth place smiley - erm
