I'd like to find the following people in the 1911 census. In 1901 they were at Clay Cross but I don't have an address
James Hayward 42, Milverton, Warks, Coal Miner Hewer
    Mary Hayward 41, Wolverhampton, Staffs

So was he 41 in 1901 or 1911?

And have you got a reference for the 1901 census?

James would be 42 and Mary Ann 41, in 1911. I don't have a reference for the 1901 census.

That's very helpful, thank you. I wasn't even sure the parents would still be alive in 1911.

They are only in their early 40's - I know life expectancy was not as long as it is today but I would have expected them to make 50. The myth that almost everybody died young doesn't seem to be borne out in my family at least. Ok so several died in infancy but once past their mid teens they then seemed to last out for at least another 50 years generally.

Unfortunately the Coal Miners in my family seem to have died around 50 ish, if not before.
