You may be interested in this as some information may be released by MOD with or without the need for next-of-kin's approval. This is news to me, until I saw 'Missing Millions' the tv programme where they got a copy of the service record.

I do have a couple of service records I would like to get post 1920 and the men have definitely been dead more than 25 years. Now just to start saving as I need the death certs first for 2 of them.
are these records available for www1 soldiers

The surving records for the First World War up to 1920 are at The National Archives, Kew. If the person served after 1920 and the frecords survive then they are at the MOD in Glasgow and I expect that the same MOD rules apply. Hopefully MOD will release the records for the 1920-1938 period soon!.
Harry, if a (professional rather than conscript) soldier served in WWI but stayed in after 1920, then his records will not have been released yet. Hence the above news is good!
