hi can somebody tell me how to access old telephone directories please

yes go to your nearest library and if you are a member you canb access them free on line also Ancestry have some them as well
good luck with your search how far back are you wanting to go

between 1918 and 1940s as i want to get an address for my great grandmother and her 2nd husband. not sure how successful i will be lol

Not all public libraries have an Ancestry sub. They don't in the general public libraries in the county I live in, only in the local studies libraries.
Why don't you post the names here (they are all deceased, aren't they) and someone with an Ancestry sub might be able to find them for you?
