I am searching for information on my Great Grandmother Mary Ann Cross (nee Few) known as Annie Cross who died in Shenley hospital on December 24th 1963. I know very little about her other than she had 6 children and after her last child was born (my Grandmother) she was admitted to a workhouse hospital and stayed there until she was admitted to Shenley in the 1930's.
My cousin who is also researching this side of our tree has made enquiries and unfortunately because of the 100 year protection law, the archives which contain information about Mary Ann cannot be opened at this point in time but I am hoping there is still someone alive who may have tended to her at Shenely and can shed light on her personality. There are a lot of rumours within the family why she went into an institution and never came out. It would be lovely to finally find some answers.

Welcome to the Family Trees Board DMR

I have copied and pasted this for you as it was on the wrong board
It may help you to understand the board if you read the Welcome message at the top of the page

We are not allowed to discuss living people here but as your query is about a deceased person then someone may help you understand what is available and what is not.

Because medical records were private they were closed for 70 years I think but someone may know if they are available to next of kin or not. Or what info may be available to you if any.

    Edna

I think you need to go back about Mary Ann Cross as data protection applying to her ceases to take effect when she died and information on other people who may be in the same volume can be redacted or you could be given just a copy of her record. If the archives still maintain this closure ruling you could take it up with the Information Commissioner's Office.
