I have got quite a lot of Catholics in various branches of my family and in hubby's too. I have so far managed to find what I need without having to look at Catholic Parish records. I now need to start trawling through them and feel somewhat daunted by the prospect.
It is far more years than I care to remember since I did Latin at school and I was completely rubbish at it anyway. It was always my lowest marked subject . I did print off the internet, some while ago, a list of common words to look out for when looking at these registers but goodness only knows what I did with it
I was wondering if there is anyone out there who has spent a lot of time researching Catholic records, who could offer me any advice to make it less daunting or give me any tips as to how to best tackle this area of research.
Many thanks in anticipation.

Linda You need Sheron B. She has looked at her families RC records.
In case the NA isn't as useful as I'd hoped, this list for FreeReg transcribers might be more help.
Where I went for my records they had a little booklet to help, plus I had a list printed of the Familysearch site. It's not to bad, reading it.
I looked at catholic parish registers for Greenwich for the first time recently which were in Latin and I have never done Latin.
However, being familiar with other registers and knowing the general format I really didn't have any trouble in getting to grips with them after 5 mins or so. Its easy to tell the months and once you pick up the words for born, married and died then it was really only the given name that caused any difficulties and they weren't dissimilar from old english.
It really wasn't an ordeal.

Many thanks everyone for the replies. I've had a quick look at the links that have been posted and they look very useful. I've added them to my favourites so I can have a good look at it all at my leisure and not lose them again. Thanks once again.
Linda
Pheno, thanks for that. I hope it isn't as bad as I fear. Fingers crossed.
