Hi all, Whilst rummaging through a plethora of fascinating items relating to my great grandfather (including things like WW1 trench maps - so interesting!) I came across a share certificate for gwalia consolidated limited. It seems my GG bought 50 shares at 2/6 each in 1904. Googling gwalia comes up with information on a gold mine in Australia, so I presume this was all around the gold rush time. Could anyone shed any further light on GWALIA for me? Or does anyone know much about the GWALIA Gold mine/ share purchase. Was the purchase of shares at this time the "normal" thing to do. And I suppose I should ask the awkward question of could it still be worth anything? (probably the certificate it's elf is worth more!!)

    Many thanks
    Alex

This is a historical site and try to make contact as the share cert may no longer be of any value but historically it may be worth something to this site

    Company folded in 2004

'In a landmark decision, the shareholders of Sons of Gwalia were awarded the same status as non-shareholding creditors on 27 February 2006 because the company breached continuous disclosure obligations or misled them about its financial status.[21] On 29 August 2006, Sons of Gwalia (SGW) was delisted from the Australian Securities Exchange.[22]'

    An historic site:
