I hope I am on the correct place for asking for information on my Grandfather.
His name was Robert Jones born 31/1/1908 in Baguley Cheshire England. (Although he and the family were told that he was born on 29/2/08)He was part of the D Day landings and got shot in the nose but the bullet did not explode otherwise I wouldn't be here. He had a hole in his nose which I used to ask him about all the time when I was young. I have recently inherited his Atlantic Star medal and ribbon and a certificate commemorating V.E day to record the appreciation of 1809033 Bombardier Jones R (25) by someone Dunkeld from the First Regiment Maritime Royal Artillery. I do recall that he also told me that he had been in another war but I don't know what that was. I would be grateful if anyone had any information no matter how small. Apparently his name appears in a book somewhere but I don't know what it's called.
    Thank you

The Maritime Regiment Royal Artillery was part of the Royal Regiment of Artillery.
During WW2 its members manned the anti-aircraft guns, sometimes 40mm Bofors, on merchant ships including the tanker OHIO that was part of the Pedestal convoy to Malta.
I do hope that some of this is of use to you.
