I am trying to trace the whereabouts of Eliza Maria Fieldwick (formerly Strickland) she was born in Peterborough Northamptonshire April 1836.She married Henry Fieldwick 1868 in Peterborough and was widowed by 1875, I believe she died in 1910 in Edmonton.

I am trying to find her on the census returns for 1871, 1891 and 1901 can anyone help?

    Thanks
    Maggie

That's a tricky one, I can't even find an Eliza born Northants in 1881 let alone the other years smiley - erm

She should be with her husband then in 1871 - what name did you find her under in 1881? She might have married again for later years.

    Thanks for your reply

Eliza Maria Strickland (her married name was Fieldwick) was born in 1836 in Peterborough. I have found her birth record and her marriage record, but cannot find her under her married name of Fieldwick on the census returns.

So what surname was she under in 1881 please? (You missed 1881 out of your list so I assumed you had found her in that year)

Otherwise I am drawing a complete blank I'm afraid. Did her husband die in this country? I wonder if they went abroad.

    Hi Tourmie

Thanks for all your hard work

The 1871 census on the Isle of Man looks promising does it not state where she is born.

Does the census give any indication of the husband's profession?.

    Hi Pheno

Thanks for your reponse the only census that seems plausable is the 1871, I can't understand why she would say she was born in Knightsbridge when she was definitely born in Peterborough maybe she had something to hide.

I believe her occupation was school teacher.

Thanks for your help the 1871 census I would say is correct.

The 1891 census the birth year is correct so it must be her although I do not know what a Dyers Agent is do you? Perhaps she is selling dyes.

Selling dyes sounds like a good guess to me. I think on the other census year she was an embroiderer or dressmaker but I'll check in case it is her.

I would say if she was a visitor someone else could have given a wrong place of birth but as she was on her own in 1891 and gave that information smiley - erm

Yes in 1881 she was down as an embroideress.

    Nice one.

There is a death recorded in Douglas for Henry Fieldwick in 1872, as follows:

    FIELDWICK, Henry 50 Braddan 1 Jun 1872

    Here's the source:

There is also a list of wills including the following.
    FIELDWICK, Henry 1872 Douglas E 100 0106477
    The source is:

I think the site suggests that the actual will details can be got from Latter Day Saints family history library with the above references, but you can read more on the site.

Finally Thwaite's directory for Douglas 1863 has a lissting for henry in "Tobacconists and Cigar and Snuff Dealers"
    Fieldwick Henry, 36 Duke street

Thank you very much you have all been very helpful and given me a lot to go on.

Looking back on the info I have her elder sister Elizabeth was born Hanover Square, London in 1834 so it's possible that Eliza was also born in London and baptised in Peterborough.

I didn't realise that the familysearch website held so much information looking forward to browsing, thanks for drawing my attention to it.

    Thank you all again

    Maggie
