I am looking for more information to add onto my tree. As I do not have access to Ancestry, I would be very grateful if anyone could take the time to look for information for me x
There is a Charles Edwin Locock, born 1877 in East Stonehouse, Plymouth, Devbon. I have no information for him in terms of marriage, children etc so I would be grateful if someone could maybe find him on a 1901 census? I have found his death already but I know nothing else about him! xx

Yeah that's them I'm looking for children to marriages at the second, have a lot of marriages without kids so am hoping someone can find me some census records.
Emily Sarah Locock got married in 1893 in East Stonehouse, but I do not know which man she married, John Ching or Edwin Honeywill, but someone with access to census records would be able to tell me as they aren't common names on either fella x

Can't seem to see her on 1901 census , the only Emily Ching with husband John is too old and is on 1881 census as Ching ,

Just a quick question, have a census record for 1911 that someone kindly found for me a while ago, Alfred Locock (1869) and family living in Southwark. His daughter Dorothy born in 1903, it says on where born 'Queensferry NB'. Upon Googling this, it says that Queensferry is in Scotland, I am unsure that the family ever lived up there, and what does NB mean? Thanks in advance x
Link to this forum: Information on Locock's in Devon area :)
Queensferry is in Deeside North Wales look around Flintshire area.

Not sure what the NB means though

NB seems to have been added later - not sure if it's a reminder to the enumerator
There is blue ink coding next to the birth locations - for Dorothy this is 560. The codes are on 1911 census site and indicate the area as "560 Edinburgh Visitors " - so definitely the scottish not welsh Queensferry (also explains why Dorothy Ellen's birth is not on FreeBMD)

Thanks Edna! They lived in Devon/Hampshire area so Wales might have made a bit more sense as it's closer that Scotland! When I googled it, it was saying Queensferry was near Edinburgh. I've no idea what NB means either!
Link to this forum: Information on Locock's in Devon area :)
NB literally means Naval Base. It was used to denote if a child was born in the local community or on a military base.

I've just seen your reply come up after I replied to the other one! Yeah I could not find her birth either. They must have been up to Scotland at some point, he was in the navy, I was just unaware that they had.

Oh wow thanks for that info, that clears it up then
Link to this forum: Information on Locock's in Devon area :)
Forgot to mention that the destinction of where a child was born is important in terms of their nationality. Children born on military soil in a different country were British or English etc but if it was off base and in a different country they were not. So Dorothy would have been English not Scottish.
Link to this forum: Information on Locock's in Devon area :)
In this case the NB stands (in my view) for North Britain, an old name for Scotland and which was in use for quite some time in British Government records.
Link to this forum: Information on Locock's in Devon area :)
Dorothy would have been Scottish but since Scotland was part of the UK with no devolved government then she would have been British, The argument about the military bases doesn't matter as the military forces in the UK (except the American bases) are British and that hasn't changed since at least 1746.

Hi all! Just a request for a 1901 census for James Thomas Locock. He married Laura (nee Glanville) in Islington in 1894, so is most probably in the area. I am interested in her birthplace and any children they may have by then? many thanks xx

Laura is with her brother William Glanville in Islington in 1901. Birthplace for both Plymouth Devon.
Oh and with another sister as well Josephine born Frampton Glos.

Can't find them in 1911 nor a definite for him in 1901 I'm afraid. Possibly they didn't have any children if none are with her by 1901. If the birth year is correct she would be a little old.
Unless there were some born soon after the marriage that were elsewhere.
