I have found out my husbands Grandfather name, for data protection I have not revealed his whole name. But I would be grateful if anyone can tell me where do I go from here. I have looked on ancestry.com and only found one in the Peterborough area with a birth date and I can't find anything else. Please help. Thanks

If it is likely that he's dead, you can give his name on here.

If you could tell us his name, data protection runs out 100 years after birth or when the person dies, that would help. From August 1969 the date and place of birth is recorded on the death certificate and that should be the first port of call. From that you can work back to his marraige, then his birth and the 1911 census. You could ask family members about his life but what they have been told needs to be verified.

If you get stuck or are unsure let us know as we can offer suggestions.

We have found out that Thomas Wedgwood was in the British Army but I don't know where to start looking for records. I think he may hav been based in Peterborough but not 100% sure. When he was in the Army he spent time with my husbands Grandmother Eva Ruff who was in the NAFFI. I can't find anything about his gentleman and would love to find out more. So any help will be gratefully received.

If you think you can see army records of someone still living I'm afraid you will be disappointed. Also those who have died recently the service records are only open to proven next of kin but I believe this is being relaxed.

Do you have any other information, regiment, year etc.

If you look on freebmd there are births of Thomas Wedgewood up until 1924 on there later births are available on ancestry and findmypast. Your local library may have the library edition of ancestry that you may be able use free of charge.

I have looked at military records for the WW1 and only one Thomas Wedgewood is appearing and there is no dob stated.
