Could someone help me with the following:
Liberton Midlothian and Libberton Lanark, are they the same place ?
Secondly i've been using the Scottish site to try and obtain a birth/christening date for George Graham born in 1812, according to the Family search site he was christened in Lanark on the 8th July 1812.
There is no sign of him on the scottish site except a Guye Graham born 8th July 1812(christened 12th July 1812), parents are John Graham and Janet Watson.
I know George Graham's father was John Graham and obviously want to know if Guye is actually George ? I've also found references to a John Graham and Jean Watson and also a Jane Watson ?
Does someone have any other info to help me ?
Could Guye have changed his name to George. Could the Family site be incorrect with his christening date of 8th July ?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Liberton and Libberton are seperate places, although Midlothian and Lanarkshire are not far apart.

Originally Family Search was created from the Old Parish Registers (OPRs)but after the 1992 version some information seems to have been submitted by individuals and there appears to be no actual document stating the information.

I think a census entry for 1841 or 1851 might help might help, but one of the problems is that the burial entries are not yet available online, so the Guye Graham may have died early in life and therefore not your George Graham. The Scotland's People website only includes baptisms up to 1854 that were in the Church of Scotland and other churches are not included. Jean and Jane are interchangeable. If you know when George Graham died then his parents should be listed on his death certificate (from 1855)and you can find a marriage and then try to find a baptism, but not all people were baptised or may have been baptised late in life.

Thanks for your help on this, George Graham actually moved to Kingstown Carlisle and died there in June 1894, so unfortunately a death certificate will not reveal parents, although as mentioned earlier his father was definitely John Graham.
i just keep coming across references to this Guye Graham as being born in Liberton Midlothian (according to Family Search) and then the actual baptism and birth was in Libberton Lanark. Then i come across Jean Watson Jane Watson and Janet Watson. All very confusing and its a shame because unless your 99.9% sure you've got the right wife of, then its pointless carrying on down a path that may be wrong. i have overcome conundrums like this before but i'm proper confused with this one !!
Thanks again for your help....back to the drawing board !!
I know which churchyard he is buried in, would the church records of his death (not certificate)show his parents ?

If the churchyard has had the monumental inscriptions (gravestones) transcribed then that might help you. The local family history society or archive office should be able to advise.
