    Hi Happy Bert.
    I am new to Message board, I am trying to trace the family of my Great Grandfather, James Douglas Born 1829,died 1894, He had a Printing and bookbinding business at 102 Northgate, Blackburn, Lancashire,He had 7 children, but I don't know if they had any children and I'm trying to contact any of them if possible.

    In the 1891 census the following family is living at 156, Shire Brow, Blackburn, Lancs.

    James Douglas, head born abt. 1829 in Blackburn.
    Occupation. Letter press printer.

    Elizabeth, wife born abt. 1831 in blackburn.

    Elizabeth, daughter born abt. 1869 in Blackburn.
    Occupation. Machinist.

    Maria, daughter born abt. 1874 in Blackburn.
    Occupation. Bookbinder assistent.

    Hannah, daughter born abt. 1876 in Blackburn.
    Occupation. Cotton Winder.

    Hannah Douglas, Sister born abt. 1827 in Blackburn.
    Occupation. Seamstress.

    Sorce Information. RG12/3402
    Registration District: Blackburn
    Folio 45 Page 38. GSU No. 6098512

    On the 1861 census is I believe the same family.

    James and Elizabeth Douglas living at Shire Brow, Blackburn with the following children

    Mary, born abt. 1855 in Blackburn.
    George, born abt. 1856 in Blackburn.
    Thomas, born abt. 1859 in Blackburn.
    John, born abt 1860 in Blackburn.

    Which gives you your 7 children if this is the correct family which I hope it is!

    Hi, I did a sample dip on James Douglas's children and reserched Thomas Douglas and on the 1891 census and found the following family living at 1, Alker street, Blackburn, Lancs.

    Thomas Douglas, head born abt. 1859 in Blackburn.
    Occupation. Licenised hawker.

    Ann, wife born abt. 1856 in Blackburn.
    Ocuupation. Cotton Weaver.

    Margaret, daughter born abt. 1875 in Blackburn.
    Occupation. Cotton Spinner.

    Winifred, daughter born abt. 1876 in Blackburn.

    Thomas, son born abt. 1881 in Blackburn.

    Mary A, daughter born abt. 1884 in Blackburn.

    Sorce Info: RG12/3400
    Registration District Blackburn.
    Folio 74. Page 40.
    GSU No. 6098510.

    Hi, Dipped sampled another one of James Douglas's children and shown on the 1881 census is the following family living at 1, Moutre Hall, Blackburn, Lancs.

    George Douglas, head born abt. 1856 in Blackburn.
    Occupation Printer.

    Married June 1/4 1876 in Blackburn.

    Mary Jane Douglas nee Fielder born abt. 1856 in Blackburn.

    Ada, daughter born abt. 1878 in Blackborn.

    Sorce info: RG11/4196 folio 78. Page 16.

    Sadly Mary Jane died in the March 1/4 1883 in Blackburn.

    On the 1891 Census George Douglas is show as a widow and a lodger living at the Grapes Hotel, King William Street, Blackburn

    Source info: RG12/3400 Folio 42. Page 10.

    On the 1891 census Ada Douglas, his daughter, is shown as the neice of a Elizabeth Richmond and living with her at the Hare and Hounds in Blackburn.

    Thank you Spike it is a tricky one but very interesting, I have managed to get back to 1765 and surprise surprise all the familys I have found was either Printer & Bookbinders or Letterpress Printers

    Hello Spike. I am sorry for being so long in replying to your messages, they have ben very helpful, I have gone back to 1756,my gr/gr/gr/grandfather,John Douglas a printer,then his son James 1797 my gr/gr/grandfather a printer, his son another James 1828 printer my gr/grandfather. his son another James printer my grandfather. So with the information you have provided, I see I am going to have a busy time.
    Thank you for being so helpfull. I have access to the 1881 Census from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, but I think I will purchase the later issue.
