I have reached a deadend with a female family member, one Constance Iris Michell, who married my grandfather Joseph Faiers in 1933, had one daughter by him and then vanished. By deduction we believe that my gradfather was something of a cad and kept another 'wife' who had 2 sons (one was my father), the daughter was evacuated to her paternal aunty during the war and then returned to live with her father and my grandmother, but Constance just disapears and I can't even find a birth certificate for her as no father is listed on her marriage certificate?? Long shot but does anybody have any links or ideas to help??

If you have a marriage certificate, presumably you have an age and therefore an estimated year of birth and you could search Ancestry or 1837online for her birth. Have you any idea where she was born? There are quite a lot of Constance Michells/Mitchells on Ancestry, but none with middle name Iris. How about this one?

MITCHELL, Constance I 1911 September Births Worksop Derbyshire Nottinghamshire West Riding of Yorkshire

You may have to purchase several certificates before you positively identify her.

Thank you for your advice. Her age on the marriage certificate is 19, she has no given profession, but that is not surprising, however, I have looked through the birth records from 1911 to 1914 and not been able to find any Constance Iris Michell's. Her father is not listed on the certificate, only the 2 witness' which are D.F Michell and K.H Michell - not much help hey? Her place of residence is 17, Moat Drive, Hendon. I am wondering if she was adopted? Or whether she was brought up by relatives? Any more ideas I am very grateful for your assistance!

Have you looked to find out what 17 Moat Drive, Hendon, was?. The 1901 census should help as well as local trade directories.
