can anyone please help me with an 1851 census lookup? I am looking for a John Slade and Charlotte Slade. They were in Westminster in Sept 1851 when there daughter Mary Ann was born.
I need to find out where John was born. I'm stuck until I do. He was born circa 1820.
Any help appreciated

Hi Busybeaver, On the 1881 census is a SLADE family living at Green End, Hanslope, Bucks. I know you was enquiring after the 1851 but I think you will find that this entry gives you the answers you are looking for.
John Slade born 1820 Hanslope, Bucks.
Charlotte wife born 1818 Radnage, Bucks.
Plus 4 other Children but not Mary Ann, propberbly married.
PRO Ref: RG 11. Folio 1483/24 Page 3.
Family search shows a Mary Ann Slade born 29th September, 1851 St. James, Westminster.
Trust this is the John SLADE you are looking for.
Regards
Spike

Hi busybeaver, By way of an apology I have just ploughed through the 1851 census the hard way (CDs) for St. James, Westminster and found only one Charles SLADE born in Kent. I can get the details if you want them. Could have you Slade family moved to St. James after the census night but before Mary Ann was born?

Spike

Thanks Spike,
I suppose they could have moved down to London, just before 1856. They married in Northants in 1841. They must have had some children elsewhere.
perhaps I need the 1851 Northants census to see.

Hi busybeaver, Thank goodness for that! Are you aware of a John Slade dying in the June 1/4 1874 in Westminster age 57? Plus a Charles William Slade born March 1/4 1845 in Westminster. Of course only a copy of his birth certificate would show his parents. Anyway still looking.
