Could someone with access to the 1871 census look up William Horton, born 1869 Islington, who is a visitor in Islington St Clements - I can't afford an Ancestry sub at the moment, I've found him in the index, and I'd really like to know who he was staying with. May be a red herring, but worth a try. Thanks!

Why not try the Ancestry pay per view offer costing Β£6.99 for up to 20 images over a 7 day period? They don't all have to be used on the UK 1871 census but on the whole of Ancestry's database.

    The family is as follows:
William Horton abt 1869 Islington Visitor Islington St Clement London
Alice Watkins abt 1861 Islington Daughter Islington St Clement London
Ann Watkins abt 1833 Lynn, Norfolk, England Wife Islington St Clement London
Edward Watkins abt 1835 St Pancras Head Islington St Clement London
Ellen Watkins abt 1863 Islington Daughter Islington St Clement London

NB The family name is given as Watkins, but on the image the first letter looks nothing like a 'W' and I think it could be Harkins. Edward is a printing machine manager.

Many thanks, Anisel. They may and may not be relations, but I know where the rest of the Horton family was that night and was wondering where William had got to and if it might tell me anything else. The printing connection is 100% right, as his father and all his older brothers were also in the printing trade. The Watkins (or Harkins) could have been kindly neighbours or workmates helping out with a large family! It all helps to put the pieces in the jigsaw.

    Thanks again, Veronica
