I am looking for the following person on the 1901 census can anyone please help?

From the 1911 census there is a Frank Leonard Hulme born about 1871, he was living on the Isle of Man and married in 1902 on the Isle of Man.

Unfortunately, I don't know where his birthplace is but it does look like it is not the Isle of Man.

    Thanks for any help
    Ewan

    Births Mar 1899
Hulme Dorothy Maud Manchester 8d 238

The only Hulme in the 1901 IOM census is Dorothy. Maybe Frank is somewhere back in Manchester.

Thank you so much for your hard work and time to find Frank on the 1901 census for me. I tried to find his birthplace using just the index but had not luck.

On the 1911 census he had a daughter as you have mentioned (aged 9) and a son also his wife Maud. That certainly looks like Frank's future wife that I was looking for, I wonder where Maud was born.

    Now I am severely confused.........

There is a marriage for a Frank Leonard Hulme to a possibly Lily Field Stockport in the June of 1898 quarter.

The Dorothy Maud born Manchester does look like the one you found on the 1901 living with the Field family in 1901 on the Isle of Man.

I will need to look deeper into this, knowing where Maud Field was born would help, but then the information is only as good as it is given!
    Thanks again

Looks like Lily died in childbirth which could then explain why her daughter was with the other Fields in 1901 - her relatives?

Yeh I saw that death record and wondered if she died in childbirth of when the baby was very young. It looks like Frank went on to marry a Maud in 1902 on the Isle of Man, so it looks increasingly likely that it was a relative of Lilys. I was hoping for a different surname for Maud than Field, so it looks like it is back to the drawing board again.
    Thanks for your help

It sure looks like Frank married his sister-in-law then. Isa the other sister is in the household. On closer inspection, there are no birth places given for the children.

    1911 census

    Frank Leonard Hulme/ head/ age 40/ married/ married 10 years/ 2 children born alive/ 2 children still living/ none for children who died/ occupation Publican/ industry: brewery [think that's what it says]/ own account/ at home/ b. Handforth Cheshire/

    Maud Hulme/ wife/ 30/ married/ 10 years/ 2/2/none/b. Heaton Chapel, Lancs/

Dorothy M. Hulme/ daughter/ age 9/ blank for birth place

Walter R. Hulme/ son/ 7/ looks like ditto marks in the next 5 columns [?]/ blank for birth place

Isa Sayle/ sister/ age 24/ ditto marks assume married/ no occupation/ b. Heaton Chapel, Lancs

Lily V. Sayle/ neice/ age 2/ blank for birth place

    plus two servants

    Lily Cowley/ servant/ b. IOM

    Elizabeth Radcliffe/ servant/ b. IOM

    Hello snowyborn_again

Sadly for me that does look correct he married Maud Field and that means I am starting again to look for another Maud/Maude, whom I know was born in Plymouth and who may have been on the Island of Man for the 1911 census.

Can't thank you enough for your time spent in helping me.

Do you know I was sure as sure that I had found the correct Maud, the memorial inscription for her and Frank's grave had been found they died well into old age 83 and 94 years of age respectively. I just needed verification of her maiden name, as you know it turned out to be Field.

I have looked at Maudes and Maud with the surnames of Hulme, Field, Corkish, Nixon, Fairless, Williams, Fayle, Lawson (possible married names for Maude/Maud), but they turned out to be incorrect Maudes/Maud. I have her (Maud) on the 1901 census living as a servant on the Isle of Man, her age showing as 21 born in England.

Her name at birth in 1878 Plymouth was Maude Nellie H Cox.

There are still a few surnames to go through so I will keep plodding.

    Thanks in advance
    Ewan

Frank indeed did marry his sister in law. His first wife had died in a road accident (run over by a horse and cart). Frank's first child was to his first wife, Lilian, and they were living in Manchester at the time of their daughter's birth (Dorothy Maud), and Lillian's death. Frank married Maud Field on the Isle of Man, Walter was born on the Isle of Man.

Dorothy Maud Hulme is my husband's grandmother - we have a family bible entry for this family, and I've looked them up successfully in BDM records etc.

I would certainly like to try and find more info on Walter Reginald Hulme (known as uncle Reg by my father inlaw). He married a widow with 5 girls and I don't know what year that was in. I don't think Walter had any children of his own, he remained on the Isle of Man to the best of my knowledge. I don't know when he died either.

I took another look and the link you suggested. The first time I checked it out (some time ago now) I didn't have any success, but this time I did find the marriage I was looking for for Walter Reginald Hulme. I'm really pleased I've finally found it.

Yes, Ewan - I saw. But it's always good to have your findings confirmed - even if it is for the wrong person (one that didn't belong in your tree). Happy ancestor hunting.

BTW - thanks for all the census results. I'd already come across these over the years in my research - but through your enquiry here I've now got them all together on one web page.
