Genealogy Pox
WARNING !
Genealogy Pox is very contagious to adults.
SYMTOMS:
1) Continual complaint as to need for names , dates , places.
2) Patient has a blank expression and is sometimes deaf to spouse and children.
3) Has no taste for work of any kind except feverishly looking for name cards at library, and archives.
4) Has compulsion to write letters.
5) Swears at the postman when he does not leave letters.
6) Frequents strange places , such as cemeteries , ruins, and remote desolate country areas.
7) Makes secret calls at night.
8) Hides telephone bill from spouse.
9) The patient mumbles to himself and has a strange faraway look in his eyes.
TREATMENT:
Medication is useless.
Disease is not fatal , but grows progressively worse.
Patient should attend genealogy workshops, subscribe to genealogy magazines and browse Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ family history forum,
Plus be given a quiet corner in the house where he or she can work alone.
REMARKS:
The unusual nature of the disease is the sicker the patient gets, the more he or she enjoys it.
THERE IS NO KNOWN CURE !
Author unknown
love it lol.
So that's what I've got! ....dee
I'm just in the early stages, trying to fight it will be futile then !!
Alas all the victims eventually "pass away" not having got any better
Ahhh well such is life
Very good enjoyed that one..
Cheer's Doc
I dont think any private health insurance will cover you either!!! In fact I think its specifically excluded
Missed out the bit about sometimes being found cowering under the desk with a blanket over their head, hiding from angry ancestors going by the name of Francis, Frances, Eliza, Callus and possibly Lydia.
Nice one

that explains why i have been feeling so poorly, thanks for the giggle
It's highly contagious too!
I have these syptoms, and all the wife and kids thimk im mad doing this genealogy. at least i can show them your treatment, your name should be Doctor Bojalu .
I've had it for years, and I don't seem to be able to shrug it off!!
Genealogy is not fatal, but it is a grave disease.
Oh, nice one pooh. Definitely go well with our remarks about spending our time chasing dead rellies, that will.
Genealogists never die they just lose their census
OUCH! Pooh you're getting as bad as me. And i wish i'd thought of it, good one.
A genealogist is the only person for whom a step backwards is progress!
Not if he falls in the grave Biggles.
And counting 56 50 47 43 and so on.mmmmmmmm!
Husband and I have just gone down with this ailment. It gets worse each week and we wake up at night thinking about it. We recently spent a holiday in Devon, not sunbathing and strolling about but heads buried into museum and library archives. However we did get some exercise when we walked round a few cemetries.
There is no cure but it is harmless.
Genealogy is the only hobby where dead people can excite you
Or frustrate you at the same time and shouting at the computer doesn't help either
Has anyone noticed that little smiley after some of the messages on RootsChat, where he is tapping the keyboard and a fist comes out of the screen and thumps him. I love that. Just how I feel some times.
err - don't think it is, pooh, but we won't go down that road!!!
Hey pooh what about taxidermy.
You'd get ribbed about that for sure.
Sage and onion comes to mind.
GENEALOGISTS: The only people happy to receive a death certificate in the post.
GENEALOGY: Where you confuse the dead and irritate the living.
GENEALOGY: Collecting dead relatives and sometimes a live cousin !
GENEALOGISTS: Do it in graveyards.
And not only genealogists. Is that what they call getting stoned.
Oh dear...
I can't really say anything, my dad got me into researching the family tree at age 14... 12 years later and I'm still going whilst he gave up years ago!
Oh I like the idea of Genealogy Pox . It's certainly contigious!
I think it has reached epidemic proportions and is sweeping the country. They are even having to put programmes on the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ for those who have succumbed to it
Oh well best set up a branch of
Genealogy
Pox
Anonimous
All GPA meetings to be held in the Royal Oak every full moon.
Digging up this old one, so that the newbies can see it and know what is in store for them

Nice one!! I have definately got it. Pity a GP won,t issue a sick note for work though!! particularly if it is contageous!! Edielee Wouldn't there be a few puzzlwd looks and raised eyebrows from employers??
Not only is it contageous it affects ones ability to spell properly as well!! Edielee Blinking spider wheres me swatter!!!!
I always wondered where the phrase POX DOCTORS ASSISTANT CAME FROM now I know!!
Carefull you lot,
or some smarty pants doctor will come up with a new syndrome.
Its ok if his name is Smith (smiths syndrome)
but there are worse surnames abroad!!!
mm
groan - still it is all relative
Well that just proves what my Mother has been saying all these years "I Must Be Sick" lol
Well if I was sick then I must be even sicker now,
put me a bed by my computer so I do not have to move to far, and That mobile Library needs updating to more books and things on the very subject.
Einstein had a theory...
Theory of relativity.....
nice one paula, we must have the relativity Syndrome, oooor the Einstein Syndrome.
mm
smiley with the Einstein Syndrome...that's hair not yikes standing out there ..... sorry, I'll go and do the washing up.....
I have got this as well, and I think I am contagious because other members of my family and now my best friend has it too.
Lift this one up for the newbies, so that they can see what they are in for
Thanks and this is first good laugh that I've had today. Needed it too.
