Iv'e got varies yrs for his birth. Searched FRC,St Catherines,1837,to no avail. How can l confirm who his family were without a birth cert. From his marraige cert in 1869 he was 21 and his father was William
Hi Light-hearted,
Do you know where was George Richaby born and his father's occupation?
Regards
Spike
If you check the 1871 census it should say where he was born and and his family. You could look for William's marriage and work from there. There are said to be about 2% errors in the original birth, deaths and marriages indexes so he may have had his name mis-spelt in the index. He may have not been born in England or Wales, especially if William was in the army.
I seem to remember that the registration of births, deaths and marriages in England and Wales did not become compulsory until 1874. From 1837 to 1874 they managed to register most events without the compulsion factor. So it could be the case that your birth falls into the very few that escaped registration.
In Scotland and Ireland compulsion was a feature of their systems from the start.
Hi Spike G.Rickaby was born Birmingham Warwickshire, as taken from the 1851 age does not tally because most info suggests he was born 1848 1881 1891 census. His father off the marraige cert is William, and the surname Rickaby was spelt Rickerby, William was a carpenter.
Hi Light-Hearted,
