I checked the 1841 & 1851 census ages ago on fiche film and two of my ancestors were missing from the family home on the 1851 though they were there in 1841. Charles Ayscough b 1830 and Christopher Ayscough b 1832. I found Christopher on 1861 living in Kent so knew he was alive in 1851 and finally found him with a different spelling. I cannot find Charles at all, either died or living. Can someone have another look and see what happened to him.

    Many thanks

    Jo

Stallingborough, Lincolnshire. Yes they were Askew in the 1841 census and then reverted to Ayscough for 1851 onwards but have only found Christopher as Askew in 1851. I expect it depended on who was writing. Christopher was a vagrant in 1851 and can't believe it was the same one as his father was a wealthy farmer. Mind you the father did go to live with his youngest daughter Mary Anne and her family and she eventually inherited all his money even though his other children were alive when he died in 1884. Mary moved the the States in 1885. Hence the american connections
