Strange one this. My friend is trying to trace her family tree. I managed to trace her ancestors to the 1901 and back through to the 1861 census. My friend's mum has a family bible with all these different names in so have traced the maternal side back to 1861. Heres the query. There is a family called Bourne in the bible. Father William born 1801. He had a daughter Martha (b 1824 ???). On the 1861 + census my friend descendant William Lonsdale born 1823 is married to Martha. How can I find if this is the same Martha as Martha Bourne? There is a William Lonsdale married a Martha in Sept Q of 1839 but that would make him just 16. on the census's William and Martha's eldest is born about 1859. Any suggestions please? All born in Lancashire

    Jo

Perhaps he married twice and coincidentally they were both called Martha. Or/and no children survived until the one born in 1859. Not unheard of. There's only one way to find out and you know what that is! Buy the certificate!

PS: Be warned that family bibles are notoriously inaccurate because if certain events were not to the liking of the family concerned, the event was not entered or it was edited or it is was altered!
