I am a descendant of Richard Tarleton who came to the colonies in 1680. I want to trace his ancestry in England. One family document says he is the son of Ricahrd Tarleton who was the favorite court jester of Queen Elizabeth. Anyone have information for me? Where were the Tarletons from?

They may originally hail from the Lancashire place of the same name, just south of the river Ribble.
As someone with relatives there, I can well imagine a court jester from the village.
These days the main business is horticulture - mostly growing tomatoes.
There is no obvious great hall at Tarleton, but Rufford, a couple of miles to the south, has two, with Rufford Old Hall (now owned by the National Trust) being of Elizabethan date.
