Can any Kind person piont me in the right direction please. I think i have found my great grandfathers GRO in 1843.
I am having trouble as no one in the family will talk about anything due to falling out`s etc.
I have been told by my cousin that our Great Grandfathers name was John Woolven. He married Elizabeth Vine think this might be second marrige as Elizabeth already had a son. In 1991 census it shows John Woolven age 49 born Brighton this makes his birth c1842 in 1881 census it shows John Woolvin age 33 born Brighton this makes his birth c 1848 the only GRO i can find is 1843 i have checked name varriants should i go for this one. If any one has Sussex census for 1851 , 1861 or 1871 could they have a look for John and his parents please as this would help confirm when i order is marrige and birth certs
Thank You
Found a John Woolven - b Horsham Sussex. 1861, 1871 and 1881 census all born 1843/1844. Could this be him?

I wouldn't worry too much about ages on the census they often told a few pork pies.
There is a John Woolven B 1844 in Brighton on the 1861 census. I assume the GRO you have found is Dec qtr 1843 in Brighton Vol 7 page 288?
Hi
John tells more porkies on the 1901 census:
John Woolven 48 (!) labourer (fish) Brighton
Elizabeth 46
Walter 24
George 13
Albert 8
Harry 4
RG13/922 f.94 p.29
On the 1861 census he is with
William 54 Horsham
Susan 44 Lewes
John 17 Brighton
Ann 15
Henry 11
Jane 8
Thomas 6
RG9/594 f.53 p.14
Afraid I can't find him anywhere on the 1871 census, only the John from Horsham who we can discount because he is on the 1871 and 1881 married to Louisa.

Hi LincsJen. That is a gret help ty at least now when i get his marrige cert it will show hopefully father as William and his birth will show William and Susan.
