I have managed to get back to the mid 18th C on my dads side and he is so thrilled, bless, he is 89 now, as attempts by his relatives have failed as they were all Scottish. I am going to visit him soon and he has asked for a printable version. I have used family tree maker, ancestry and Genes reunited but can't seem to find one that will print the family of 8 generations. To be honest I am finding it hard work to update all three trees as I find new information. Any recommendations would be much appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

    Jo

    Hallo Jowin1,
Have you grouped everyone on one family tree? If you have would it be worth just staying with your father's blood line for printing purposes.
I also use the family tree maker and I find that with all the various variations I can isolate a line and print or go the whole hog and print the all in one tree.
    Regards
    Spike

At the Society of Genealogists exhibition in London last summer, one company was selling printable family trees. They were selling a variety of different sized formats, from 5 generations upwards. I think the largest went back about 15 generations and they were challenging anyone to fill it in. Of course, I never thought to write down the name of the company to post on this message board at a later date !! Quite short sighted of me.
However, a suggestion might be to either
    1. Contact the SOG and ask them for a list of exhibitors at last years show. You might be able to get hold of the company name, a website and/or a telephone number.
    2. Scroll through the small ads of any of the genealogy magazines available at any good newsagents. (WHSmiths sells 4 different ones). This company must be advertising somewhere.
I hope that helps. Good luck

    Hi Loftyowl.

Two people have sent me their family tree by Email and on both occassions though there were many generations, they came in two or three pages. Just wondered if there was something on line that I could use rather than paying for more software. This geneology thing is costing me a fortune in certificates etc. I will try and isolate my dads line on family tree maker first before I look at buying moe software.

Thanks though and I will have a look at altrnatives if it doesn't work.

    Jo,
I might have mis-understood you. I read your message to mean that you were looking for a paper format, not a software programme.
The stand that I visited at the SoG show were selling paper copies. I thought at the time - and as I intrepretated from your message, that this would be a great idea for a present to an older relative. A paper copy, filled out by a calligrapher in beautiful handwriting.
I've got Family Tree Maker and it's excellent to store data and very easy to use but I wouldn't choose to hang the output from it on my dining room wall.
    Sorry, if I've confused you.

What I wanted was a printable version, not hand written. Both my daughters and my sister are computer literate so they can access it when they want to but my poor old dad aged 89 is not. Neither does he have a computer. Also he is officially blind so I don't want to waste money on a calligrapher. But thats a good idea. I wanted a printed one so I could read it to him and so he could send it to his older brother, aged 91, if he wanted so it could be given to my cousins etc. I am going to plod on with my family tree Maker and see if it prints just one branch. Fingers crossed.

    Thanks again

    Jo

Try GenoPro at www.genopro.com. The program is free to download and you can produce a chart with your whole family tree on it. This can then be printed straight off, or a picture file produced that can be pasted into a Word doc or Powerpoint presentation. I have used it to to print large trees on an A0 plotter
