I am looking for information on the 17th AYSSE REGIMENT a friend of mine had a family member who served in this regiment and was based at Chatham barracks in 1844.
Have tried several sources without any success, would be more than grateful if anyone knows any details about this regiment to get in touch
Hi Derhay,
I have checked the british regiments in 1881 and the there is no AYSSE regiment or the like. Are you sure of the spelling? Also Chatham was mainly a Royal Navy Dockyard thats not to say though that army regiments may have been based in the area.
Regards
Spike

Thanks for checking the records Spike, believe the spelling is correct, but have checked other spellings without success. There was a battle which took place in India in 1803 known as Assye. Can confirm that the barracks was Chatham, in a letter to a brother in 1844 he states where he is writing from.
Thanks again
Derhay
Derhay, if you check out and particularly their sections on wars and battles, you may discover which regiments etc took place in this action. Regiments is second to none in comprehensive detail.
Thanks for the information Isobel, will check this out.
