this is my surname and I am having trouble finding ancestors with the right spelling of the name ,I honestly didn't know there were so many variations of the name can anyone help me....
Remember that formal education and literacy were not essential for most of our ancestors. Names were not written down except by officials, who spelt them as they heard them. It is quite normal to find different spellings of the name within the same family, or for the same person over time. Conabeer is a relatively uncommon name so don't fret about the spelling, just concentrate on the relationship.
In addition to Anisels comments, don't forget that by tracing the relationships that the documentation which goes with births/marriages/deaths will show you where the spelling changed.
